The West Highlands have many beautiful gardens. The climate of cool summers, warm winters and soft rain created by the Gulf Stream, gives ideal conditions for a huge and varied range of plants. Many gardens are part of country houses and estates often first planted back in Victorian times. The mature trees and large rhododendrons are magnificent. As well as rhododendrons and azaleas, you will find camelias, Himalayan primulas, blue poppies, maples, rowans and many other species discovered and brought back from all over the world.
